
Dr. Karen Surowiec
Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist
Dr. Karen Surowiec is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. She earned her doctorate from Nathan Weiss Graduate College and holds dual Master’s degrees in both School Psychology and Communication from Rutgers University.
Dr. Surowiec specializes in comprehensive neuropsychological and diagnostic evaluations across the lifespan, with particular expertise in complex differential diagnosis and individuals who have been difficult to diagnose or previously misdiagnosed.
Dr. Surowiec has extensive experience evaluating developmental, neurological, psychiatric, medical, and learning conditions. Her areas of expertise include ADHD, learning disorders, autism, pathological demand avoidance (PDA), intellectual and developmental disabilities, anxiety, OCD, trauma-related conditions, along with many others. She has particular expertise in autism and PDA evaluations and the early identification of developmental concerns in young children. Her work also includes educational, legal, and forensic evaluations involving special education, developmental disability eligibility, immigration, military and law enforcement personnel, and child and family matters.
Dr. Surowiec has created, supervised, and trained interdisciplinary assessment teams and previously served as Supervisor of Psychology at Children’s Specialized Hospital. She also worked as a staff neuropsychologist within the Pediatric Infectious Disease Department at University Hospital and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where she conducted grant-funded developmental evaluations and participated in research involving women and children affected by HIV. Her advanced training includes Albert Einstein Montefiore Medical Center and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, including specialized autism assessment training through the Seaver Autism Center for Research and Rutgers University GSAPP.
